HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KATE!!!

In 2013, we decided that it was time to adopt another four-legged daughter. We decided to rescue a Brittany Spaniel. When I visited the Brittany Spaniel Rescue site, I found a litter of beautiful puppies whose mother was a Brittany Spaniel, but the father was a Boykin Spaniel. The couple that owned the mother and father had surrendered the litter to AARF, in Winston-Salem, NC. While AARF does not normally allow a pet to be adopted by anyone living more than an hour from Winston-Salem, they agree to consider letting us adopt if our longtime veterinarian would write a letter vouching for our history in caring for our pets.

Once approved, I drove to Winston-Salem with the intention of adopting one of Kate’s sisters that looked like a pure bred Brittany. That “intention” changed when I sat down in the grass enclosure where Kate and her siblings were playing, and Kate ran over and jumped into my lap twice while her sister ignored me. You might say that Kate rescued me!

It’s hard to believe she’s 11 years old today. She doesn’t look 11, and her beauty is far beyond skin deep, she has a kind heart of gold. We wish that she could be with us for at least another 11 years. She is one precious girl.
