“Thinking Outside the Boat” can be remembering old friends in communities we pass through while cruising. When cruising through Wilmington, NC, we enjoy getting together with my high school friend, Bruce Allcorn. After high school, Bruce and I drove Austin-Healey 3000’s while our friends drove “muscle cars.” Bruce now has two incredible Healeys that he maintains in concours condition. Neither has been driven in the rain during all the years he has owned them. When he travels back to our hometown of Winston-Salem, or to visit friends, he tows one of the Healeys in an enclosed trailer, where it spends each night on the road. In early July when we overnighted in Carolina Beach, he brought us breakfast to the marina in this beautiful blue and white, all original 1967. It’s the same blue color as the 1961 that I drove in our younger days. What I would give to have that old 1961 back in my “stable!”
