October 20, 2026. This post may only be of interest to other Mainship 34T owners, but it is what it is.
Two years ago, a galley cabinet door hinge snapped while we were on our summer cruise north. I quickly found out that, like a 2006 Mainship 34T propeller shaft, you will not find one of the original European cabinet hinges at Walmart or ACE Hardware!
I also found that the original manufacturer was apparently out of business, so I was about as likely to find one of the original hinges online as to find bathing beauties in bikinis in Antarctica. A friend and fellow Mainship owner told me that a few years ago, he had bought one at Lowe’s. I was not so fortunate; our local Lowe’s had nothing close to the right hinge. A deeper online search only led to more frustration.
So, last year we cruised with one cabinet door missing. Over the winter, I began researching European cabinet hinges online, again. My efforts ultimately led me to Amazon and the perfect replacement hinge! The hinge pictured above saved me.
Now, after a couple of years of frustration and wondering how I could aesthetically repair the cabinet door without an original hinge, I was able to find an almost identical hinge of much better quality and at a very reasonable price. While the new hinge doesn’t have the exact adjustable fitting for aligning it with the adjoining door, I was able to compensate by slightly moving the part of the hinge that attaches to the cabinet framework.
Hopefully, this post will help another Mainship 34T avoid a lot of frustration.

Fair weather and following seas,
Oh Captain My Captain
